Woodhull 4755: Sheepskin Suede on Stiff Bridle

The Woodhull 4755 puts sheepskin suede on the outside and thick, stiff English bridle leather underneath, so the soft surface sits on a hard frame.

Soft skin, hard frame

Sheepskin suede is thin and velvety. On its own it would sag, so the case is built on bridle leather thick enough to stand up. I use no cardboard anywhere. The English bridle gives the case its structure, inside the compartments and behind the suede on the inner flap.

Suede cannot get wet, and I treat this one as a showpiece. Use it with caution.

Hardware

The lock is Italian, handmade, with high-end brass parts. My signature bottom cross stitch handle carries the case, and the whole thing is hand saddle stitched.

The lock, the leather and the suede

The Italian lock is one of the high-end handmade locks I install, made by hand with brass parts. The bridle underneath is the bridle leather I use for its structure, and What English Bridle Leather Actually Is, and Why Briefcases Are Cut From It explains what it is. The suede is described on the suede lining page, and the care on the leather care page: no oil conditioner and no water.
