Habermas 1056 in Chestnut and Forest Green

Chestnut outside, forest green inside. The Habermas 1056 pairs a warm brown leather with a green suede lining, and the photos here show the earlier version of the bag.

What changed after the photos

The listing records some adjustments made after these pictures were taken. The case is now fully lined with Italian calf suede, including the shoulder strap, and carries a standard set of inside pockets. The photos show a chestnut lining on the flap, and that is now lined with the same suede as the rest. The leather loop in the pictures has been replaced by a removable chain that attaches to the top of the latch. The chain is the better option.

Green suede

Italian calf suede lines the inside. The page on suede lining describes the material and the leather care page covers how to protect it. Forest green is a quiet choice for an interior, a color you notice only when the bag is open.

The latch and the chain

The brass Marcellino latch carries the chain. The Marcellino latch page describes how the latches are made, and the journal article on solid brass hardware explains the choice of metal.

The shape behind it

The Habermas is one of my original classic designs, first made for New York lawyers and updated over the years. The journal article on English bridle leather and the anatomy of a briefcase glossary give more background on the materials and the parts.
