Maxwell 2015
Maxwell 2015 closes with a buckle instead of a lock.
A wide strap of tan leather runs over the flap and down the front, and a silver buckle holds it. There is no hook, no latch plate, no mechanism. The strap goes through a keeper, the tongue goes into a hole, and the case is shut.
The leather has a lot going on. Its surface is mottled in bands of light and dark tan. Under the studio light it reads as cognac and caramel. Outdoors, in the photographs taken on a dune with a wooden post, the same leather turns more red.
The handle is a stitched strip of the same leather, fixed to the case with rivets. In the photograph on the sand, the rivets and the line of stitching run along the edge of the handle.
The strap lies loose in the overhead photograph with the flap open, tongue out, ready to be fastened.
