McCarty 1536
McCarty 1536 sits on a pedestal in front of an entire black hide.
The hide is the raw material. The case is what cutting, edge work and stitching made out of a small piece of it.
The front is a clean black field with one interruption. A silver-toned hook, with a thin chain beside it, rides on a stitched tab, and the close-up shows the grey thread running along the tab edge. A leather handle on top is held with silver plates and rivets.
From the side the body is not a single slab. The profile shows divided sections, stacked one against the next, with the flap folding over the top of them.
The lighting changes with every photograph, from white studio backdrop to the warm light of the shop floor, and the leather shifts from flat black to deep charcoal each time.
